India take on Mongolia headon at the Kalinga Stadium in Intercontinental Cup opener

Odisha: India and Mongolia will play each other at the Kalinga Stadium on June 9 to kick off the Intercontinental Cup.  The other two teams competing in the competition, Lebanon and Vanuatu, will also compete against one another on the first day.

India is practicing for the Qatar 2023 AFC Asian Cup in this competition. Following the Intercontinental Cup in Bengaluru from June 21–July 3, 2023, India will participate in the SAFF Championship 2023. The national team will begin camping in Bhubaneswar the next week, on May 15, 2023, under the leadership of head coach Igor Stimac to prepare for the match.

The third Intercontinental Cup will be held; the previous two competitions were held in Mumbai (2018) and Ahmedabad (2019). All four teams will face each other once prior to the top two teams facing battle in the championship game on June 18, 2023.

India’s men’s national squad has never before met either Mongolia or Vanuatu. The hosts have faced Lebanon six times in the past. Vanuatu and Mongolia are the two lower-ranked countries in the tournament, with Lebanon being the highest-ranked country and being rated only two positions above India in the FIFA rankings.

The matchups are as follows: India vs. Mongolia on June 9; India vs. Vanuatu on June 12; Mongolia vs. Vanuatu on June 15; India vs. Lebanon on June 15; and June 18: the conclusion.
