Indian Embassy in Ukraine issues advisory to students to leave the country

Washington: India has issued an advisory for its students, asking them to leave the country amid the ongoing tension in Ukraine and Russia. India on Sunday asked its students and citizens living in Ukraine to temporarily leave the crisis-hit Ukraine in view of further uncertainty regarding the situation arising in the region.

The Indian embassy in Ukraine wrote on Twitter, “All Indian nationals whose stay is not considered necessary and all Indian students are advised to leave Ukraine temporarily. Available commercial flights and charter flights can be used for travel in an orderly and timely manner.”

The Indian Embassy said that students are advised to keep in constant touch  for the chartered flight. Also, stay tuned for updates on the embassy’s Facebook, website and Twitter. Significantly, there are about 18,000 Indian students studying in Ukraine. Most of them are students who have gone there to study medicine.

Earlier this helpline number has been issued by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. If anyone needs some help or information regarding their relatives in Ukraine, they can call the helpline numbers 011-23012113, 011-23014104 and 011-23017905. Apart from this, a call can also be made on the toll free number 1800118797.
