New Delhi: Indian wrestlers have performed brilliantly in the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championship in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Ravi Dahiya defeated Rakhat Kaljan of Kazakhstan 12-2 to clinch the gold medal in the final of 57 kg freestyle category. This was the third consecutive gold medal for Ravi, the silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, in this championship. Before Ravi Dahiya, no Indian freestyle wrestler could achieve this feat.
Ravi was trailing the Kazakhstan player at the beginning of the final match. However, he made a tremendous comeback and defeated the opposition player on technical superiority in the freestyle event. Ravi belongs to Nahari village of Sonipat district of Haryana. Ravi first defeated Rikuto Arai of Japan in a golden journey and later made it to the final after registering a convincing 12-5 victory over Mongolia’s Zanabazar Jandanbud.
The Japanese wrestler initially troubled Ravi but once he tested his opponent, he dominated and eventually won by technical superiority. Then in the semi-final against the Mongolian wrestler, Ravi was trailing 0-4 at one time but after that he made a spectacular comeback and registered an easy win.
