Indira Bridge springs back to life, commuters in city are all smiles
Lucknow: Indira bridge connecting IT to Nishatganj has started. Full traffic has started from Tuesday. It was closed since last February 26 due to repair work on the bridge. Because of this, about 5 lakh people had to face a lot of difficulties while passing through this area with long diversions.
A part of the railway over bridge was dilapidated. In such a situation, the traffic was completely stopped to get it corrected. According to the engineers of the bridge workshop of the railway, welding work was going on in eight pillars. It is being told that there is a problem due to not having enough space on the spot. This took a long time. While the work was to be done by 30 April.
After investigation at that time, it was decided that the Railways would complete its part of the work by 30 April. But this could not happen. The work was completed by May 15. In such a situation, the problem remained for the next 10 days.
Bridge is 617 meters long
People from more than 10 areas including Chowk, Thakurganj, IT, LU and Nirala Nagar go through this over bridge on Faizabad Road. More than 50 thousand vehicles pass through the 617 meter long bridge daily. It has the highest number of autos and tampons. Autos going from Nishatganj to Chowk pass through this bridge.
It was constructed four decades ago to avoid jam at the railway crossing on the way from IT to Nishatangaj. Now the iron girders in the railway part have melted and cracks have also appeared in the floor and side wall of the bridge. The Public Works Department had closed the traffic on the bridge.
Vehicles going from IT intersection towards Nishatganj were now passing through Samthar Petrol Pump. From here it was easy to go to Nishatganj via Chhannilal, Gol Market Square by turning left. Apart from this, before Indira Bridge, many took a right turn.
