Dubai: On one hand, the excitement of the World Cup is at its peak, while on the other hand, preparations for the world’s biggest cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is called the festival of India, have also started. If reports are to be believed, this time the auction of players will be held outside the country. As per Cricbuzz, the auction for IPL 2024 is likely to be held in Dubai and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has kept the dates between December 15 to 19.
The auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is expected to take place on December 9. However, the venue for the WPL auction has not been decided yet.
Although no official mail has been sent by the board to the franchises, but there is a buzz that the IPL auction will be held in Dubai. There is every possibility that there will be a market for cricketers from all over the world on 18th or 19th December.
The BCCI had considered holding last year’s auction in Istanbul, but ultimately decided on Kochi. The Dubai plan may be temporary given last year’s precedent, but all IPL franchises have been informed about the idea of the Gulf city as an auction venue.
The trading window is currently open, but there has been no report of player trade between IPL franchises yet.
It is believed that soon the list of retained and released players will also start coming out.
Meanwhile, BCCI is yet to inform the owners about the venue and dates for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction.
It is being suggested that the league could be scheduled for February this year. Actually, the women’s team has to play international matches in the middle of January.
The teams have not received confirmation whether the WPL will be held in the same city or in different cities like the IPL. Last year the entire league was hosted in Mumbai.
