Jaipuria Institute of Management students learn managerial lessons through visits to Rural heartland
Lucknow | Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow organized a two-day Social Outreach Program for the batch 2022-24(360 first-year students). In order to attain one of the competency goals and to make the students aware of the impact of managerial decisions on issues of social concern, the institute, under its field-immersion-based course titled ‘Social/Rural Internship’ sent its students to various villages to familiarize themselves with the socio-economic environment of rural areas. 20 teams of around 360 first-year students were formed and sent to 20 villages of Rae Bareilly, Barabanki, Unnao, and Hardoi districts. The students visited the assigned village on the 28th and 29th of December 2022 and collected data from the villages on the basis of the guidelines given. They collected data under 28 different categories such as Irrigation facility, drinking water facility, Sanitation, etc. The students under this social outreach programare expect to develop an ability to recognize salient social issues in the local and global contexts and discussed the impact of managerial decisions on issues of social concern.
Dr.Kavita Pathak, Director – Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow said “we intend to develop five key competencies called as the Competency Goals among our students through outcome-based education (OBE) approach. After successfully completing the PGDM programs, students are expected to be able to communicate effectively (competency goal-1), demonstrate the ability to work in teams to achieve desired goals (competency goal-2), apply relevant conceptual frameworks to a given business situation (competency goal-3), evaluate different ethical perspectives (competency goal-4), and be aware of the impact of managerial decisions on issues of social concern (competency goal-5)”.
“Social Outreach Program is one of the various initiatives taken by Jaipuria Lucknow to develop the students as ethically aware and socially conscious management professionals. Under this program, students are exposed to the rural social system and economy and get an opportunity to come out with an innovative solution to issues faced by rural residents”, said Dr. RK Ojha, Dean-Academics at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow.
Dr.Reena Agrawal, Chairperson – Social Responsibility Committee at Jaipuria Institute said “we conducted the SOP to help the students connect with the villages and understand the issues and implications of corporate decisions at the grass root level”.
Dr.Shalini Singh, Program Chair at Jaipuria Institute said “the Social outreach program aims to create a better understanding in the student of the rural fabric. Thanks to the support from Panchayati Raj who facilitated the visit of our students to villages of Barabanki, Hardoi, Unnao, and Raebareilly”.
