King Kohli & that sinking feeling
Pune: Virat Kohli, the former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, has been in poor form for some time now and his failures were very evident with him being dismissed without opening an account in the first ball of the IPL 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium.
According to a tweet by cricket statistician Mahzar Arshad, Kohli has now reached a century in 17 Tests, 21 ODIs, 25 T20s and 37 IPL matches. After RCB opener Anuj Rawat being dismissed for 4 in the first over, Kohli came out to bat. Kohli was dismissed on the very first ball without opening the account.
Kohli has managed only 119 runs in IPL 2022 in seven matches at an average of 19.83, with his highest score being 48. Kohli is the top scorer in IPL history so far in 214 matches with 6,402 with five hundreds and 42 half-centuries. He is seventh in the list of batsmen with more runs in cricket history with 23,650 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 34,357 combined runs across all formats. But he has been going through poor form for some time now. He recently relinquished the Test captaincy and has replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain across all formats. Virat’s poor form in the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year could be a matter of concern for India.
His new failure caught a lot of attention on social media, with many netizens arguing in favor and some against him. He talked about the difficulty of scoring a century in T20 cricket including IPL. Kohli is incidentally second only to Chris Gayle (6) in the list of players with the most centuries in the IPL.
