Kumar Sangakkara is betting big on Rajasthan Royals for the coming season of IPL

Mumbai: Rajasthan Royals director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara believes they have a “very capable” side that can put up a strong performance in the Indian Premier League after three poor seasons. Royals have been ranked seventh, eighth and seventh in the last three seasons. The upcoming season of IPL will start from March 26. Former Sri Lanka captain Sangakkara said, “We know that we need to do a lot of work for our team in the off-season. I think we were able to identify the departments that needed attention and followed due process while selecting the players for the auction. We were able to meet the criteria set for us.”

He said, “I think the franchise has done a great job choosing a strong team.” Responding to the team combination, Sangakkara said Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran. Ashwin’s presence will make a big difference.

“We have two of the best spinners in the IPL in terms of leg spin and off spin in Chahal and Ashwin. We have a strong fast bowling line-up in (Trent) Boult, Prasidh (Krishna), (Navdeep) Saini, (Nathan) Coulter-Nile, (Obed) McKay, along with Yashasvi (Jaiswal), (Sanju) Samson. And there’s (Jos) Butler who we retained.” Sangakkara said,

“We have depth in every department, James Neesham, Mitchell and Recy van der Dussen are fine cricketers. We also have some good young Indian cricketers. The main thing is that our team is very capable.”
