Lucknow: In a purely Make in India initiative, a self-sufficient kit ‘Indiflor COVID’ has been developed by Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) for testing of Corona. It is learnt that fluorescent dye and other ingredients used to prepare it have been developed by CDRI. This comes at a time Indians are still dependent on Europe and America for such technology and knowhow.
On the 70th foundation day of the institute, the developed technology of Indiflor COVID Kit was given to the biotech desk of a Hyderabad company.
Director of the institute, Dr. Tapas Kundu says that test kits have been developed using quenchers- CDRI-KQ3, CDRI-KQ4 in addition to fluorescent dye- CDRI-KD1, CDRI-KD1 AZ3. The kit is created using indigenous technology useful for accurate testing. The head of the technology development team, Dr. Atul Goyal has been quoted saying that it has been prepared in the last seven months only. Now it can be used after the permission of Indian Council of Medical Research. This may take up to two months. Q-RTPCR is the most reliable means for COVID investigation. This team includes Dr. Goyal along with other scientists Dr. Ashish Arora, Dr. Neeti Kumar, Dr. N. Damodar Reddy.
