Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, who reached the booth on Wednesday morning to vote in the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, has praised former BJP President and Home Minister Amit Shah. On the question of Amit Shah telling the BSP to be strong, Mayawati said that it is his greatness that he has accepted the truth. Mayawati also said that the party is getting votes of all sections, not only of Dalits and Muslims.
Talking to reporters after casting her vote at the booth at Mall Avenue in Lucknow, Mayawati said, “Today the fourth phase of polling is going on. I appeal to the voters that this is a festival of democracy and must come out to cast their votes . You must cast your one vote. Especially I want to tell the people of weaker section that due to the tireless efforts of Param Pujya Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, we have got the right to vote, so it must be used. By the way, I appeal to every voter that to strengthen democracy, they must vote.
Responding to a question about Amit Shah, the BSP supremo said, “I think it is his greatness that he has accepted the truth. But I also want to tell them that in the whole of Uttar Pradesh, the BSP is getting the votes of not only Dalits and Muslims alone, but the Bahujan Samaj Party, which is the most backward and upper caste society, ie Sarva Samaj.
What did Amit Shah say?
In a recent TV interview, Amit Shah had said that Mayawati has not lost her relevance. Her party will get votes in Uttar Pradesh. Shah said, “BSP has maintained its relevance. I am sure they will get votes. I don’t know how many seats it will translate into but BSP will get votes. Mayawati has her own land. Jatav vote bank with Mayawati. The Muslim vote will also go with Mayawati in large numbers.” When Shah was asked whether this would benefit the BJP, he said, “I don’t know whether it will benefit or harm the BJP.” It depends on the seat. But, it is not true that Mayawati’s time is over.
