Lucknow: Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia has launched the Bal Swastha Poshan Mah (BSPM) at the Urban Community Health Center (CHC) Aliganj by giving vitamin-A supplements to children. On this occasion, the Mayor said, ‘Vitamin-A supplements increase the immunity of children as well as protect children from malnutrition. Vitamin A deficiency increases the chances of disease and mortality in children.
Therefore, children from nine months to five years must be given vitamin A supplements. She said that ’18 to 44 age group, people above 45 years of age and pregnant must get vaccinated against Covid, because the only way to defeat corona is Covid vaccination. Covid vaccine is completely safe.
Additional Director Health Dr. (Major) G.S. Bajpai said that the objective of conducting BSPM twice a year is to provide vitamin A supplements to targeted children during routine immunization. To protect children from night blindness and malnutrition, to increase their immunity, to reduce the mortality rate in children under five years of age and to send a message to the people that use only iodized salt.
On this occasion Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Aggarwal said that during BSPM, all the protocols of prevention from Covid will be followed. It will be necessary to keep sanitizer with the ANM at every session. The amount of Vitamin A to be given to children will be determined by the spoon mixed with Vitamin A medicine, in which the mark of 1 ml and 2 ml will be made.
Only after one bottle is over, another bottle will be opened and after opening the bottle, the date must be written on it. A separate spoon will be used for each child. District Immunization Officer Dr. M.K. Singh said that during the BSPM, about 5.91 lakh children are targeted to be administered Vitamin A supplements. On this occasion, District Health Education and Information Officer Yogesh Raghuvanshi, District Program Manager Satish Yadav, CHC Aliganj Medical Superintendent Dr. Anamika Gupta, CHC Aliganj Health Education Officer Dewanchand Verma, UNICEF representative and other CHC officers and employees were present.
