Tokyo: Tokyo Olympics 2020: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has won the first medal for India in Tokyo Olympics 2020. Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal winner in the 49 kg women’s weightlifting event. Mirabai Chanu lifted 87 kg in snatch while 115 kg in clean and jerk. With this, she lifted a total of 202 kg. With this she has become the first medal winner of India in Tokyo.
Before Chanu, Sydney Olympics 2000 Karnam Malleswari gave India a bronze medal in weightlifting. Karnam Malleswari had lifted a total of 240 kg at that time. She became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic bronze medal by lifting 110 kg in the snatch category and 130 kg in the clean and jerk.
As soon as Mirabai Chanu won the medal, there was a wave of happiness in the whole country. Mirabai Chanu has made the whole country proud with her success. Expressing happiness on the achievement of Mirabai Chanu, President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi have congratulated her.
