Mumbai: Mithali Raj, who is called the backbone of Indian women’s cricket, has retired from international cricket. Mithali Raj was playing international cricket for the last 23 years, now at the age of 39, she said goodbye to all formats of international cricket.
Mithali Raj completely ruled her cricket career which lasted for more than two decades. She is the hallmark of women’s cricket in India, the highest run-scorer in ODIs. Mithali Raj, 39, announced her retirement on June 8 by issuing a long message on Twitter. Mithali wrote in her message that I was a little child when I represented my country wearing a blue jersey. This journey was long enough to see all kinds of moments, the last 23 years were one of the best moments of my life. Like every other journey, this journey is coming to an end and today I announce my retirement from all forms of international cricket.

I think this is the right time to say goodbye to my career, where the future of India is in the hands of young players. I thank BCCI, Secretary Jay Shah and all other officials.
Mithali Raj further said that it was a matter of pride for me to captain the team for many years, this time made me better as a person, as well as took forward women’s cricket. Even though this journey is ending here, but I will remain associated with cricket in some form or the other.
