MSD to take call on future possibilities for Ben Stokes playing captain to CSK

New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings spent the biggest amount in the IPL 2023 auction on England all-rounder Ben Stokes. CSK included this English player in their team for Rs 16.25 crore.

Along with playing the role of all-rounder in the team, Stokes can also contribute to the leadership group. As soon as Stokes’ entry took place in CSK, there were talks in the cricket circles that after Dhoni, this player could be handed over the captaincy of CSK. Amidst all these speculations, now the statement of CSK CEO has come to the fore. He has said that Dhoni will decide whether or not to make Stokes the captain only with time.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, CSK CEO Kashi Vishwanath said, ‘We were very excited to have Stokes and we were also lucky as he finally got us. We wanted an all-rounder and MS was very happy that we got Stokes. Captaincy is an option but MS has to take a call on it with time.

Apart from Ben Stokes, CSK has also included New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson in its team. Last year, where RCB bought this Kiwi player for Rs 15 crore, Chennai got Jamieson this time for the base price of Rs 1 crore. The CSK CEO said that Jamieson was injured due to which other teams did not bet on him.

He further said ‘Kyle Jamieson was injured so probably not many other people looked at him. We got to know from Fleming that he has recovered and is raring to play. CSK is looking bright and I hope we do well this season. We always follow process and this will help us do well.
