New DGP for U.P. on the cards

Lucknow: Preparations are on to make some more changes in the Police Department of Uttar Pradesh soon. Along with the transfer of many senior IPS officers, the SP/SSP of the districts can also be changed. After the changes at the zone and range level, the report cards of the officers posted in the districts are being scrutinised. Along with this, the proposal for the selection of permanent DGP in the state can also be sent to the central government soon.

According to the information, the service period of 1988 batch IPS officer and acting DGP Dr. DS Chauhan is being completed this month. The Yogi government had sent a proposal to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in September 2022 for the selection of the permanent DGP of the state, but it could not be approved.

After this, a fresh proposal has been prepared, which will be sent to the central government soon. At the same time, the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Delhi  is also being linked to the selection of the new DGP in the police department.

On May 11, 2022, the Yogi government had removed former DGP Mukul Goyal from the post. After this, DG Intelligence and Vigilance Dr. DS Chaihan was made the acting DGP.
