London: Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the men’s final to win his seventh Wimbledon title. In the fourth-set tiebreaker, Djokovic took a 6-1 lead and converted his third match point after being caught in a backhand by Kyrgios. This is Djokovic’s 21st Grand Slam title overall. Ahead of him is Rafael Nadal who has won 22 Grand Slams. Now Djokovic’s eyes will be on Roger Federer’s record next year. After this victory, Djokovic said – every time it is more special than before. For me this title will always be the most special. This is my most special tournament. It was this tournament that inspired me to join the sport in Serbia. Kyrgios, ranked 40th in the rankings, had been trying to become the first unseeded champion since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
The turn of the match changed in the second set when Djokovic was leading 5-3 and Kyrgios Love (nil) was leading -40 on his serve. Djokovic then took the set three times with break points and then it became difficult for Kyrgios to make a comeback.
