On the occasion of World Rabies Day, free rabies vaccination program was conducted at IVRI

Bareilly: On the occasion of World Rabies Day, a free rabies vaccination program was organized for dogs in collaboration with Rotary Club, Izzatnagar at IVRI’s Referral Poly Clinic, 52 dogs were given free rabies vaccines on the occasion.

The program was inaugurated by Joint Director Research Dr. G. Sai Kumar who said that  every year on 28 September, Rabies Day is celebrated all over the world with the aim of making people aware about rabies and to save people from this deadly disease.

Rabies is an incurable deadly disease caused by virus, it is caused by the bite of mammals, so it is necessary that we must vaccinate our pets every year.

He said that there are some misconceptions about rabies in the society, in which there should be no rabies disease in animals below the age of 1 year and treatment of this disease with oil, salt, chilli etc.

Appreciating the Rotary Club Izzatnagar, he said that it has been continuously doing vaccination and other programs for the animals since 2013. Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director of the Institute congratulated the organizers for the successful organization of the vaccination program organized on the occasion of World Rabies Day and stressed on making people aware about rabies and more vaccination.

Describing this year’s theme ‘Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths’, Dr. Amar Pal, in-charge of Referral Poly Clinic said that this theme will highlight the relationship between humans and animals. Referring to Rabies Day, he said that this day is the death anniversary of French chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur, who developed the first rabies vaccine in 1885. Today this vaccine is playing an important role among animals and humans. Its use can reduce the risk of rabies in humans.

On this occasion, Dr. D.C. Shukla,  Dr. Shashi Duggal, Rotarian Rajiv Srivastava, Rotarian Ashok Batra, Rotarian Sandeep Gupta, Rotarian Sanjeev Suri and Dr. Abhijit Pavade, Dr. Umesh Dimri, Dr. Sanjeev Mahrotra of the Institute were present on this occasion , Dr. SK Ghosh, Dr. Neeraj Srivastava, Dr. S. Of. Dixit, Dr. A. C. Saxena, Dr. Akhilesh, Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Dey, Dr. Kiranjit, heads of departments, scientists, student officers of many departments were present.
