Lucknow: One of the many painful consequences that the corona pandemic has brought with it has been the bleak future of girls who have been orphaned and don’t have anyone to take care of them. For such girls who are in the marriageable age, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided that they will get orphaned girls married. To get things going with regards to these girls, the government at present is working ona thorough database of girls being prepared in every district. Girls whose parents have died due to corona, their financial condition is also not good.
Earlier, the government has taken the responsibility of their maintenance, education and medicine. Now it has been decided that the government will give one lakh one thousand rupees for the marriage of such girls selected under the Chief Minister’s Bal Seva Yojana who are turning adults.
The age of the bridegroom should not be less than 21, the age of the bride should not be less than 18 years as on the date fixed for the marriage. In this, all the applications including the photograph of the beneficiary and guardian, death certificate of the parent or valid guardian will have to be provided for the application.
From 90 days before to 90 days after the date of marriage, application can be made to Gram Panchayat Officer, BDO or District Probation Department. 52 children are taking benefit of the scheme in the district, out of which 27 are girls. The government will also help financially in the marriage of those who become adults.
