Pardes completes 25 years: Subhash Ghai speaks on how the characters of the film were chosen

Mumbai: There are some films at the box office, whose charisma remains the same year after year. One such box office blockbuster has been Pardes, which has completed 25 years today. The team of Subhash Ghai’s directorial Pardes is celebrating Silver Jubilee, whose discussions are increasingly being shared on the country’s own social media platform, Koo App.

For this, the director of the film Subhash Ghai has shared a very beautiful interview through Koo handle, in which he has presented the whole process of choosing his characters. He says through his post:

Sharing with you my real experience of casting my stars in my film #PARDES which released on 8th August 1997. Celebrating the film’s Silver Jubilee, as it is still in its 25th year, one of the most loved films of the youth and families alike.

Subhash Ghai, who has delivered beautiful films like Pardes, Ram Lakhan, Hero, Karz, Taal, Apna Sapna Money Money, Karma and Om Shanti Om, shared his real experience of casting characters in the film during the interview.

Subhash Ghai says that as a writer and director, my first focus is on characterization. These characters narrate the story beautifully. Writing a good story is very difficult. Even more difficult is writing screenplays. And even more difficult is to color the characters. I am glad that even today the film is liked with the same vigor.

There is a principle of writing a story that first the character and his story should be written, after that the stars should be seen fitting in it. I never wrote a character after seeing a star. First, I judge for myself whether a particular character is a star fit or a new waist, only then I finalize it.

Talk about its main character Arjun Sagar, which is played by Shahrukh Khan. When I called Shahrukh for the cast, I told him only one thing, that you don’t have to play Shahrukh in this film. Tumhari Dilwale Dulhania is a huge hit and your romantic character is loved by all. Whenever you see a girl on screen for the first time, you really feel like you are in love with her. But my story is such, in which you have to keep this feeling of love till the end, otherwise my story will be ruined.

In such a situation, Shahrukh really had to work very hard to bring himself out of Shahrukh Khan and the special thing is that he did too. The character’s accessories were such that despite being modern, she looked mature. In such a situation, I advised him to wear trousers instead of jeans, which somehow made magic in the film. I think, Shah Rukh’s performance in this film stood out from all his other films.

My first plan was to cast Madhuri for the other main character of the story, Ganga, played by Mahima Choudhary. When Madhuri narrated this script, she liked it very much. The team also wanted Madhuri to be signed for this role. But Madhuri had become a big star by the time of this film. And the character who belonged to Kusum was a girl from a small village, who, seeing her going to Hawaii, starts weaving dreams that she too has to go to America in an airplane, and she should also get married there. . I wanted innocence in this character, which I could not put through the stars. That’s why I signed Mahima Chaudhary as the newcomer, so that the newness in this character emerges.

When I interviewed Mahima Choudhary, she used to laugh out loud at some particular point. Apart from this, the love that I wanted in this character was seen in his eyes, because he has very beautiful eyes and apart from this he was short in height. All these three things were common in Mahima Chaudhary, which I needed for this character of the story. That girl should be very cool talker, should laugh openly and talk with eyes, Mahima Chaudhary worked very closely on all these points, and the special thing is that she also got the Filmfare Award for this

Do Dil Mil Rahe Hai, Magar Chupke-Chupke.. This scintillating Bollywood love song has been the soundtrack to many love stories for generations. I love my India is liked with the same vigor even today. ‘Jahan Piya, Wahne Main’ and ‘Meri Mehbooba’ are such songs, which are still people’s favorite songs. In such a situation, with the memorable 90s film Pardes, where this film had a great mix of action with romance, drama, action and patriotic spirit, Pardes proved to be the most popular film of that era.

In this film, King Khan i.e. Shahrukh Khan played the role of Arjun, where he was seen on screen romancing Mahima Chaudhary, the beautiful new actress of that year. Apart from these, another newcomer Apoorva Agnihotri played an important character of Rajiv. Pardes is one of the most memorable films, starring Amrish Puri, Alok Nath, Dina Pathak, Himani Shivpuri Excellent supporting actors like Himani Shivpuri and Aditya Narayan also played important roles.
