Perfecting the Art of “Frozen Semen Production”

Bareilly: A 5 day Entrepreneurship Development Program on “Frozen Semen Production” was organized at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. This training program has been jointly organized by the ABI Center and the Department of Animal Reproduction of the Institute. 8 trainees from different states of the country (Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar and Delhi) participated in this program.

Speaking at the inauguration of the training program, Chief Guest and Joint Director Extension Education Dr. Rupsi Tiwari said that animal husbandry is very important. Animal husbandry contributes 4.5 percent to the country’s GDP while its contribution to agriculture is about 30 percent, that is why a separate ministry called Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy has been formed by the Government of India. Reportedly many start-ups are being formed in agriculture and allied sectors which are providing their services all over the country. Currently, there is a very favorable environment for startups in the country, as a result of which today about 110 universities have been formed in the country. To encourage startups, grants are being given by various ministries of the government. RKVY Raftaar project funded by Ministry of Agriculture is going on in the institute. IVRI, Izzatnagar has an important contribution in artificial insemination in animals and semen of Vridavani, Sahiwal, Tharparkar and Murrah buffaloes is available in the germplasm center of the institute.
