Lucknow : Admissions for the Ph. D courses in the Lucknow University had been stopped for sometime over issues of reservations for the Economically weaker sections candidates. With the matter sorted out, the process of admissions will be restarted in the Lucknow University. Preparations for a smooth admission process has already been started.
Highly placed sources have confirmed that the admission process will be started this week. It is expected that there will be admission in about 30 additional seats of PhD.
LU Vice Chancellor, Professor Alok Kumar Rai has been quoted saying that the PhD admission process will start this week. PhD admission process was stopped due to not giving 10% reservation to poor upper caste candidates in PhD admission. As per the Vice Chancellor, the department which has a total of 10 or more seats, reservation will be given to the candidates of EWS category. More details related to the seat distributions are likely to be divulged soon. Reportedly 25 to 30 seats are expected to increase.
Nearly a month back when questions were raised on the admission process of the 100 year old varsity, the Lucknow University had banned the process of PhD admission 2019-20. The University only recently saw an admissions committee meeting taking place where things were discussed threadbare.
While entrance tests happened in August last, the problem started when no reservation was done by the University administration for 10 percent seats under EWS.
It is claimed that the admissions have been taken according to the ordinance of 2018. There was no system of EWS at that time.
Applications were applied for PhD admission in December 2019. The entrance examination was conducted in August-September 2020. Whereas, the system of 10 percent reservation under EWS came into force in January 2019, which has left the University in a fix.
Many now even question that when candidates were not given the benefit of EWS, why were the options filled at the time of application?
