Bahraich: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation of the Maharaja Suheldev Memorial and development work of Chittaura Lake in U.P’s Bahraich via video conferencing. Present at the event was Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Speaking at the inauguration, Modi said if India’s history was written by those who enslaved India’s people then the people of India have kept the country alive in folk stories, passed on over generations.
He said as India turns a 75 year old Independent country, there can be no bigger occasion to remember contribution of great men, their sacrifice, struggle, valour, and martyrdom.
He said, “It’s a misfortune that those who dedicated their lives to protect India were not given their due position.”
An equestrian statue of Maharaja Suheldev will be installed and various tourist amenities will be developed.
Maharaja Suheldev was the one who killed Ghaznavid general Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masud in early 11th century. He is an icon of the Rajbhar community of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Earlier in December 2020, Modi had released a postal stamp of Suheldev at an event in Ghazipur.
