Political parties up their social media war tactics in poll season

New Delhi: When it comes to campaigning  on social media, the BJP seems to be more aggressive than the Aam Aadmi Party. According to Meta, a Facebook-owned company, these days most advertisements are being given for Gujarat followed by Delhi elections. If we look at the figures of Meta Ed Library for the last three months, Rs 11.58 crore was spent for Gujarat and Rs 2 crore was spent for Delhi elections. In these, the BJP is far ahead of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.

BJP increased expenditure

In the last one month, BJP has increased the expenditure of social media campaign. And in this matter she has reached the first place. Rs 1.9 crore has been spent on the ‘Gujarat BJP’ page. ‘BJP Delhi’ is at number three with an expenditure of 61 lakhs. On the other hand, 25 lakh rupees have been spent on the page named ‘Ek Moko Aap Ne’.

Lots of advertisements of Punjab government

Government advertisements given by the Punjab government topped the total expenditure of the three months. Rs 3.8 crore is being spent on this. In second place is the expenditure on the anti-Kejriwal page from Gujarat. Three crore rupees are being spent on the page named ‘Ek Dhokho Kejriwal’. Two crores are being spent by the Gujarat BJP and 1.13 crores by the Aam Aadmi Party. At the same time, 30 lakh rupees have been spent on the page named ‘Narendra Bhupendra’. Gujarat Congress is very low in this expenditure and 71 lakh rupees are being spent on its Facebook campaign. Rs 61 lakh has been spent by the Delhi BJP. In the battle of these advertisements, a direct contest is visible between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party. The expenditure on advertisements for the BJP and its support is much higher than that of all other parties.

This was the situation in UP, Punjab elections

According to the January 2022 report, BJP was at the top in terms of advertisements of political parties in the last 90 days data. In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress was behind the BJP in the Facebook campaign. Samajwadi and Bahujan Samajwadi Party were not even in the top 10. The BJP then gave 1132 advertisements in three months by spending about Rs 1.5 crore. In second place was the Congress campaign ‘Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon’. More than 800 advertisements were run on this by spending 43 lakhs.

Congress’s focus was more in Punjab

In the 2022 elections, Congress’s focus was more visible on Punjab than UP. Punjab Congress was at number three in terms of advertisements. The party had run 1638 advertisements by spending 42 lakhs.

Mamata ahead in Bengal elections

According to the statistics of April 2021, during the West Bengal elections, an amount of more than six and a half crore rupees was spent on Facebook for advertisement. In this, the Facebook page supporting Mamata Banerjee was spending more than the BJP. However, in the last phase, the BJP had increased the expenditure. On an average of 90 days, advertisements worth Rs 3.2 crore were given in support of Mamata, while Rs 1.5 crore was spent on the West Bengal BJP page. From February 2019 till now, 14.33 lakh advertisements have been given on Facebook by spending about Rs 240 crore, which are related to political and social issues.
