Poster competition organized at RMLIMS

Lucknow: On the occasion of International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS ) Day celebrated yearly on 13 February, the Department of Dentistry, Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences conducted a poster competition and awareness programme on the Asssociation of OMFS theme of “Saving Lives Saving Faces” for all MBBS and nursing students

The programme was kickstarted by the blessings of patron Director Professor Soniya Nityanand who emphasised on the need for seatbelt and helmet for all students using vehicles.

The chief guest was Mr M Choudhury (IPS), joint commissioner of police. He enlightened the students on road traffic safety and shared his experiences with the same. He emphasised on the 4Es to prevent trauma – education , enforcement , engineering
and emergency services. He told the audience that multiple measures are underway for road traffic safety enforcement – more high quality cameras and speed checkers will be soon installed everywhere in the city so that rules can be more strictly reinforced.

Professor Vikas Singh, Professor in the Department of Surgery and course director Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) gave a lecture on the importance of being trained in ATLS to save maximum victims of trauma. The Organising Chairperson Professor Shally Mahajan from the Department of Dentistry shared with the audience, the importance of the International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day.

Dr Padmanidhi Agarwal, Maxillofacial Surgeon and organising secretary, explained how Maxillofacial Surgeons are instrumental in saving faces of patients involved in trauma and the importance of getting facial injuries treated by appropriate specialists (OMFS). She shared her experiences over the years of treating Maxillofacial Trauma patients, with the gathering.

Keeping in mind the AOMSI theme of saving lives, saving faces, enthusiastic students made colourful and vivid posters demonstrating road traffic safety for prevention of accidents. Prizes for the same were won by Shanya, Nagma, Pragya and Alina.

The occasion was graced by many dignitaries, various faculty from RMLIMS, MBBS students, nursing staff, and many senior faculty shared their first hand experiences with trauma as well.
