Lucknow: For the Indian National Congress rebuilding brick by brick is a tough call given its fading political fortunes in the politics of the state and india at large. As the party gears up for the next Assembly elections in a year from now, the party as of now working on a two pronged strategy which it feels will help in its larger plans of turning into a winning combination.
The expansion of the Congress comes at a time when the party is not just gearing up for the Panchayat elections but also for the state elections early next year. Making it a fine combination with a good caste arithmetic there are faces like Pankaj Malik, a popular Jat leader of western Uttar Pradesh, Yogesh Dixit, a strong activist of the organization, Suhail Ansari a strong Ansari face, Virender Chaudhary, a Kurmi-based leader and Lalitesh Pati Tripathi a face that will help in encashing the Brahmin votebank in Purvanchal. Others joining in as Vice President are Deepak Kumar, who hails from Jatav caste in western UP, Goriadin Anuragi of Kori Samaj as a Dalit face from Bundelkhand. Vishwavijaya Singh, the state general secretary known as a firebrand leader around Gorakhpur.
The latest shuffling of decks has also seen numbers of state secretary, general secretaries being increased in every district
After the expansion of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, there will now be a secretary in charge of each district. There is also a strategy to appoint an additional state secretary in the metros. One secretary each in 75 districts of the state and in metros like Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, additional secretaries will be appointed from outside the district for the functioning of the organization so that the organization can be strengthened.
