Principal Secretary to Governor spearheads meet to discuss situation of leprosy in state

Lucknow: Under the chairmanship of  Kalpana Apasthi, Principal Secretary to the Governor of the state,  Anandiben Patel, the meeting of the Hind Leprosy Prevention Association, State Branch, U.P., was held  at the Raj Bhavan. In the meeting, the Principal Secretary told that through the order of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the name of the President of India and the Minister of Health and Family Welfare from the post of the President of India at the national level of the Hind Leprosy Prevention Association with immediate effect have been separated. Discussions were held with the members of the Sangh by the Principal Secretary and it was decided to separate the name of the Governor from the Hind Kushtha Nivaran Sangh, State Branch, U.P. with immediate effect.

In the meeting, it has also been decided to donate the funds of the union at the state level from all assets to the CM Relief Fund for the help of leprosy patients. It may be mentioned here that no expenditure has been incurred from the level of Hind Kushtha Nivaran Sangh, Uttar Pradesh branch, Lucknow, from date 27.01.1999 till date as per the cash book.

According to the information obtained from the discussions held in the meeting, it was informed by the office of the District Leprosy Officer that no office of the Hind Leprosy Prevention Association is available in any district of the state. At present, work is being done by the National Health Mission for the treatment and cure of leprosy patients under its non-communicable and communicable disease control programs.

Apart from this, World Health Organisation, no leprosy remains in 35 districts and TLM Naini Prayagraj, TLM Ayodhya, TLM Barabanki and Jalasa Agra are providing support in leprosy control works in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Inspiring all the respected members of the Sangh to be continuously active, the Principal Secretary to the Governor motivated them to be associated with voluntary social work. She said that by inviting these members of the Sangh as guests of honor in such social events, their cooperation in social work can also be obtained.

Officer on Special Duty, Education Mr. Pankaj Johny, concerned officers and employees of Medical Department and all the members and office bearers of Hind Leprosy Prevention Association, State Branch, U.P. were present in the meeting.
