Lucknow: Known to speak his mind out when required, former Chief Secretary in the erstwhile Akhilesh Yadav government, Alok Ranjan has said that privatization of public industries which are profitable is not right. He made his point of view known at a conference that was held on the Union Budget of Lucknow Chapter of All India Professionals Congress at the state Congress headquarters.
He said that the government will have to interfere directly for the welfare of the poor. The budget has not given enough attention to the area of tourism, hotels and restaurants. Looking at the positive side, he said that the budget for the infrastructure and health sectors has been increased significantly. It will yield good results in future.
Retired Prof of Giri Institute of Development Studies at the seminar. Mo. Fahimuddin said that the concession for agriculture sector in the budget is very less. The government has offered loans instead of direct cash payments to distressed farmers. While not repaying the loan is the main reason for farmers’ suicide.
Former director of the same institute, Dr. AK Singh said that there is not much confidence about privatization. At the same time, Gaurav Prakash, co-chairman of UP CIMSME, said that there is nothing special in this budget for small retailers and MSME sectors which provide employment opportunities.
INTUC Vice Chairman Ashok Singh said that this budget is nothing but the transfer of national wealth to some capitalists. Dr. Anees Ansari, acting president of All India Professionals Congress UP, architect Pragya Singh, president of Lucknow-2 Chapter and leader of Congress Legislative Council party were also present in the seminar.
