Promotion of coarse grains to give farmers in U.P. a shot in the arm : Surya Pratap Shahi

Lucknow: State’s Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said that in Uttar Pradesh Financial approval of 15.31 crores by the government to increase coverage and production was awarded. Along with this, the Agriculture Department has set up stalls at the development block level.

Agricultural machinery is being distributed to the farmers on 50% subsidy. He also informed about the efforts being made by the government for the affected farmers, who face the two headed demon of rain and hailstorm. State’s Agriculture Minister  Surya Pratap Shahi was speaking in a meeting hall of the secretariat.

While talking to journalists, he said in view of the International Millets Year 2023 under the guidance of Yogi Adityanath it has been decided to increase the coverage and production. For this by the Department of Agriculture
Promotion of coarse grains to the farmers by setting up stalls in the seed stores at the development block level has been a major step in that direction.

Certified hybrid seeds are being made available at 50% subsidy.

He said that Rs 15.31 crore has been allocated by the government for the implementation of this scheme. Financial approval has been accorded. So that the farmers who buy the seeds get the same. The grant amount can be transferred to their Aadhaar linked account every month. Bills of Coarse Cereal seeds purchased from notified companies from stall or market will be uploaded on the portal immediately. So that the grant amount is immediately credited to their DBT.

The Agriculture Minister said with this campaign of distribution of Shri Anna seeds, the coverage of cereals will increase by 2.5 lakh hectares and the production is expected to almost double.

At present the coverage of Zayed crops in Uttar Pradesh is about 9 lakh hectares.  He said that according to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh government will aid  farmers of Uttar Pradesh by promoting coarse grains in the Amrit Kaal and to increase their income by making non-irrigated fields productive, to protect the soil from toxic chemicals.

Continuous efforts are being made to save and protect the environment and water. He said that in order to make agriculture less labor intensive and more profitable, Agricultural implements are being made available to the farmers on subsidy. He said this has been the norm starting March 20.

On purchasing agricultural machinery from notified companies, farmers now have the flexibility to upload their bills on the portal immediately. On this basis, the farmers will get their 50% grant amount through their Aadhaar link.
and will be sent to the accounts this month itself.

He also informed about the rains occurring in different places of the state for the last two-three days. In the context of farmers affected by hailstorm, it was said that the assessment of damage by the district administration
being done. He said that where quick help is needed, the government help is being delivered. Insurance companies have been directed to do so within 72 hours.

He stressed immediately deliver the help to the farmers and after assessing the balance, distribute the amount to the insured farmers.

On this occasion Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Additional Chief Secretary of Agriculture Department, Director of Agriculture and other officers of Agriculture Department were present.
