Ravi Shastri pokes fun as Pat Cummins turns a cricket match around
New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Pat Cummins won everyone’s heart with a stellar performance in his first match this season. The match, which was once leaning towards exciting mode, was put in KKR’s bag by Cummins with his swashbuckling batting in a single over. Cummins took the news of Mumbai Indians bowler Daniel Sams fiercely in the 16th over of the innings and took 35 runs from the over to give KKR victory.
During this, Cummins also recorded the joint-fastest fifty in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking to broadcasters Star Sports after the match, former India head coach Ravi Shastri joked that Cummins had “really spoilt a good game of cricket”.
“It’s like someone passing by should tell him ‘Well played Pat. Thanks for spoiling a good game of cricket.’ He ruined a good game.” He said, “It was unreal. 35 runs in an over. You have to start thinking when did you see a match where the other team had the upper hand and then it becomes probably 60-40 for Mumbai Indians and it is over in the next over. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a match like this and I’ve seen a lot of cricket.”
Shastri further said about Cummins’ innings, “Look at his style of play. He had come on a mission. He had conceded 49 runs in his quota of four overs. So he must have thought that I was going to score more runs to finish this match and he shot around the ground to do that. There are hardly any miss-hits in that innings.
