New Delhi: There has been an evident shortage of anti-viral drug Remdesivir with cases of the novel coronavirus surging. To make things a little more streamlined the manufacturers of the injection have slashed prices after the Government of India made a request for the same.
The announcement has come days after the Centre in a meeting with all existing manufacturers of the drug and other stakeholders called for increasing production and supply and reducing prices of Remdesivir.
With the manufacturers realizing the problem they have slashed the rates. They have reported voluntary reduction in Maximum Retail (MRP),” the Department of Pharmaceuticals National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority stated.
Medically Remdesivir is a very important anti viral drug which is proving useful in the fight against COVID.
Mostly used for adult patients with severe complications. Seven Indian companies are producing Injection Remdesivir under voluntary licensing agreement with M/s. Gilead Sciences, USA.
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has been quoted saying that current total installed capacity of the seven manufacturers of Remdesivir is 38.80 lakh vials per month.
