Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna crash out of Australian Open

Mumbai: Indian tennis stars Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna pair suffered a humiliating defeat in the mixed doubles final of the Australian Open.

The Brazilian pair of Rafael Matos and Luisa Stefani defeated them in straight sets 7–6 and 6–2. With this defeat, Sania Mirza had to return empty-handed in the last Grand Slam of her career.

Sania Mirza has announced her retirement from professional tennis career, this was her last Grand Slam.

She will retire after the WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships starting on February 19. In the second set, the pair of Rafael Matos and Luisa Stefani won the title 6-2. With this, Sania Mirza’s Grand Slam career ended with a defeat.

The Brazilian pair is now just one game away from winning the title. Poor shots by Rohan Bopanna left India trailing 1-2 in the second set as well. After losing the first set, India will have to win this set at any cost. The pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna lost the first set 6-7. This set, which lasted 54 minutes, reached the tiebreak, but India had to face defeat there. Rafael Matos and Luisa Stefani played well in the last two sets. The first set is now tied at 5-5. The Brazilian pair is looking aggressive at the moment.

India is leading 5-3 in the first set. The pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna has made a spectacular comeback. In the third game, India came back strongly and opened their account on the score board. India is still trailing 1-2 in the first set. Rohan Bopanna made two mistakes in the second game as well, due to which India had to lose this game as well. Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna are trailing 0-2 in the first set.
