Lucknow: Now schools and colleges will not be able to charge arbitrary bus fare from students. The state government has given relief to students by releasing a new formula. The new rule will be applicable on buses registered in the name of schools and educational institutions from class one to 12.
Considering the year 2020-21 as the basis, the government has fixed the maintenance expenditure only at Rs 1648 this year. Keeping this amount in mind, the bus operators will be able to charge the fare from the students.
In schools whose buses will be AC, the fare will be 25 percent more than the fixed fee. Similarly, for a distance of more than 10 km, students will have to pay 25% of the prescribed fee to the school bus.
Under the new order, there are mostly 42-seater school buses in 13 divisions of the state. Considering these buses to have a capacity of 47 seats, maintenance expenditure has been fixed. Students will be charged 50 percent of the fixed maintenance expenses for 5 kms and 100 percent fare for 5 to 10 kms. While the air-conditioned bus will charge 25 percent more fare.
Under the order issued by Principal Secretary Transport Department Rajesh Kumar Singh regarding the fare of school buses, the formula has been fixed in the current maintenance expenditure, increase in the expenditure on the salary of the employees etc.
