Lucknow: Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) and UP Working Journalists Union (UPWJU) organized a seminar on the occasion of World Labor Day at UP Press Club.
Presiding over the program, IFWJ National President K. Vikram Rao said that the Indian Federation of Working Journalists wants to abolish the Press Council. Instead, a media council should be formed. Only through this council will the interests of all journalists be protected. Journalists are intellectuals. IFWJ demands that the Wage Board should be brought in every five years.
Night duty is against the principle of natural justice. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, arrangements have been made to give chair to the laborers as well. But in North India this subject was never even thought of. In Gujarat, three days ago, the strike has been banned for three years. This is not appropriate The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh also said that the Labor Court is an enemy of the interests of the workers. It should be improved. Why do journalists suffer today? This should be seriously considered, we demand that the institutions related to journalism and fake journalists should be investigated. Only then will their fraud be exposed, the respect of the people engaged in this noble work will be saved.
In the program, UPWJU President Haseeb Siddiqui said that it has been 52 years while doing journalism and fighting for the organization. On the first Labor Day, columns were printed on the first page of the newspapers for this day. Now, on Labor Day, most of the newspapers did not even print the Chief Minister’s congratulatory message on this day. The government would have taken the demands of the memorandum given on this occasion seriously and fulfilled them. He read out the memorandum to be given to the Chief Minister. This memorandum will be given to the CM.
On this occasion, senior journalist Manoj Mishra said that May Day was started in India in 1923. Streams and paths may be many but the goal should remain the same. He told that Shri K. Vikram Rao ji has fought a long battle in the interests of journalists. He gives us strength as a strong base among us. There is a decline in every sphere of society, but all eyes are on the conduct of journalists. Journalists are also a part of this society, there has definitely been some degradation here, we have to try it right.
In the program, senior journalist and former member of the Press Council Suman Gupta said that May Day inspires us to fight unitedly, but in the present time we are fighting separately, the result is that journalists are facing harassment. Yes, FIR is being registered for writing news. He said that senior journalist and National President of IFWJ Shri K Vikram Rao has fought a lot for the interests of journalists. Whereas the Press Council is no longer as active for journalistic interests. Various obstacles are being created at the government level. Journalists have to unite to protect their interests. He also proposed the formation of a media council.
On this occasion, journalist Raghavendra Singh said that journalists should get a conducive environment at work place, working hours should be fixed and remuneration in the form of salary should be guaranteed.
In the program, Lucknow Circle President of UP Working Journalists Union, Shivsharan Singh said that the organizations of journalists in UP have become very weak. She is no longer active in organizations fighting for the interests of journalists. If we remain divided in our interests, then the fight for the interests of journalists will be weak. The mindset of tukde-tukde gang will have to be abandoned. The bureaucracy hangs the plans made for the interests of journalists. That is why on this day our resolve is that we have to be united.
