Starting humble, one organization built brick by brick showing an iron grit to do what noone had ever done before in the sphere of Ayurveda.
Meghdoot Gramodyog Sewa Sansthan was setup by Vijai Shankar Shukla, hailing from Shahbad, Hardoi. Setup in 1985, he took inspiration from his father, Jatashankar, a poet and man of the freedom movement, to boost indigenously made products. Jatashankar who was jailed for opening fronts against the British, his son Vijai started what he called the Triphala laboratory. This was a means to give Swadeshi products a boost and also give poor a job. It all started with a shop at the Qaiserbagh area. Focus was on herbal medicine ensuring good sales and growth. It was Dr. Kamal Tawri who brought up the idea of the proprietor of the Meghdoot group joining Khadi Gramodyog Board with benefits to his favour. In 1978 he joined the Khadi board.
A loan of 7 lakhs gave their dreams wings. By 1985, Meghdoot was born with current MD, Vimal Shukla part of the team. By 1990 they bought a 5 – 6 Bigha land near Bakshi ka talab where a factory was setup. The other one came up in Madhya Pradesh. It was hardwork and perseverace that the Meghdoot proprietors got the UP Khadi Gramodyog Prize. By 2002, they were also conferred the APJ Abdul Kalam best unit award. At present they are making the best hand sanitizer for the Corona era. Meghdoot did what none others in the market could actually do and work on. During the time of March, April and May at the state level, government of UP helped immensely.
Not only did this boost morale, the average worker got the confidence. Meghdoot also got an alcohol licence. It has been a rewarding feeling when the Postal department has approved sales of the product, says Vimal Shukla, MD, Meghdoot Gramodyog Sewa Sansthan. Something which will be passed on to the consumer via 17,000 post offices. With this, the product has become the first non government product to be distributed via post offices. As CIMAP does field trials for medicine to boost immunity against Corona, Meghdoot now has a five year single hand distribution system which has been put in place for these medicines.
Interestingly for the first time the power of Herbal and Ayurveda has started overpowering allopath. Gilloy, Tulsi, Ashwagandha, Ayush, Kadha and Immunup along with others has started showing the world that good work which is result oriented is for all to see. Adding to this bouquet of the group is Gift packs, incense sticks, churan, bodywash, handwash, sanitizer, shampoo, oil, hairpack and conditioner.
Signing off, Vimal adds, “Anyone wanting to join the choice of field must understand market needs. From door to door to off the counter, creating your own niche and brand value will make you a class apart. Most importantly, even a small person staying humble can reach great heights.”
