Sitharaman might pull a rabbit out of the hat for U.P.

Lucknow: The state government has a lot of expectations from the general budget of 2023-24 to be presented in the Parliament in February. If the central government fulfills these expectations, UP is bound to get one AIIMS, one IIT and one IIM. Apart from this, UP is expected to get more share in road, irrigation projects as well as employment generation schemes. In view of the 2024 general elections, the central government can implement these expectations of UP.

Along with this budget, the central government will start preparing for the elections.

The Union Budget for 2023-24 will be the last full budget of the tenure of the Narendra Modi-led BJP-led government. Along with this budget, the central government will start preparing for the general elections. The central government can try to help a big state like UP through this budget. UP is the state in the country which has the maximum number of 80 Lok Sabha seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also an MP from the Varanasi parliamentary seat in UP. The BJP leadership is constantly engaged in special preparations regarding UP.

UP has put many proposals before the Finance Minister

In November, during the meeting held by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman with the Finance Ministers of the states in Delhi, many proposals were placed before her from the UP side. In which it was suggested to open an AIIMS in western UP, an IIT in Bundelkhand and an IIM in Purvanchal from the central budget. Apart from this, a proposal was also made to allocate funds from the Union Budget for the preparations for the Mahakumbh to be held in Prayagraj in 2025. In this meeting, a demand was also made for the establishment of a mega city for UP.

Demand for allocation of funds for irrigation and road projects as well

Under the irrigation project, a demand was made to allocate funds for the second phase of Saryu Canal, Arjun Sahayak and Middle Ganga Canal Project. Funds were also demanded for giving about 3000 crores under the Central Road Fund Project, police modernization scheme, construction of court rooms and houses in the districts. To provide employment to maximum laborers in rural areas through MNREGA, 40 crore man days were demanded, normally UP gets 26 crore man days. It was asked to provide special financial assistance for setting up IT parks at all divisional headquarters. Experts say that the central government can try to help the people of UP through the general budget. For this, allocation of UP can be increased in Centrally Aided Schemes and Central Schemes.
