Slam Dunk time for city dribblers, DPS Eldeco crowned champions
Lucknow: The ongoing ‘Under-19 Basketball Tournament’ in the first phase of ‘Sarojininagar Sports League’, was organized in the memory of late Tara Singh, mother of Sarojininagar MLA which concluded on Tuesday. In SKD Academy Vrindavan Yojna, its final match was played between SKD Academy Vrindavan and DPS Eldeco. International cricketer Rudra Pratap Singh participated in it as the chief guest.
RP Singh started the match by tossing the basketball. In the final match, both the teams gave a tough fight to their rival team. Excellent performance by the players of both the teams. DPS Eldeco became the champion of ‘Under-19 Basketball Tournament’ by defeating SKD Academy Vrindavan in a thrilling match.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh awarded the DPS Eldeco team, the champion team of the ‘Under-19 Basketball Tournament’, with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy. The first runner-up team SKD Academy was awarded Rs 25,000 and the second runner-up team Manipal School was awarded Rs 11,000.
During this, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh expressed gratitude to RP Singh. He said that RP Singh is the pride of the state and the country. Referring to his achievements, Dr. Singh said that RP Singh made an unforgettable contribution to India’s victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup by taking 12 wickets with a brilliant performance. He set a record by taking 34 wickets in 6 Ranji matches.
Along with the conclusion of the under-19 basketball tournament, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh has also announced the next sports tournament. Inter-school and under-25 sports club cricket championship will be organized in the coming days under the Sarojini Nagar League. Interested players and teams can register themselves from 1 February to 28 February 2023 to participate in this.
During this, RP Singh said that sports teaches teamwork which is useful not only in sports but throughout life. We are moving towards becoming a developed country and sports are playing an important role in this. I am always ready to encourage young players. Whenever such an opportunity comes, I will definitely come. Some lose in the game, some win, but trying is the identity of a real player. He wished all the players all the best for the future.
Former sportspersons Devendra Kumar Shukla, Abhishek Kumar Singh, Sudarshan Singh Rawat and RS Singh (Laxman Award) were honored by Dr. Rajeshwar Singh in the programme.
