Something brewing in City of Joy as Akhilesh Yadav heads there for SP National Executive Meet

Kolkata: The two-day national executive conference of the Samajwadi Party will take place in Kolkata on March 18 and 19. The conference is crucial since it is taking place before the next Lok Sabha elections in April or May 2024. Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, and Mamata Banarjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress and the chief minister of West Bengal, are said to get along well.

Both parties are anticipated to talk about their electoral plans for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Due to her alleged dissatisfaction with former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Mamata is also apparently trying to create a third front that is not affiliated with the Congress.

Recent Meghalaya assembly elections saw the TMC running for office, and Rahul accused the group of supporting the BJP by doing so.

In advance of the 2024 elections, Akhilesh has said that the coalition he would lead will run for all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

With an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), Mahan Dal, Apna Dal (K), and Janwadi Party, among others, the SP ran in the 2022 UP assembly elections.

The SBSP and Mahan Dal afterwards split apart. Any pre-election cooperation with the Congress has already been ruled out by Akhilesh.

The leader of the SP is optimistic about the creation of a new front to oust the BJP. As potential leaders of the new front, he chose the names of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, and Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Days after Mamata said that the TMC will contest the 2024 elections alone, Akhilesh made a declaration that ruled out any pre-election partnership.
