SP, RLD to pose a major challenge to the BJP in West U.P

Lucknow: With the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) coming closer in the electoral permutations and combinations of Uttar Pradesh, the concerns of the BJP may increase in western Uttar Pradesh. In the event of an alliance between these two parties, the equation of 136 seats in western UP will be affected. In the last elections, the BJP had won 109 seats here, achieving great success.

The Jat and Muslim community have a significant influence in the region. And these two together affect about 55 seats in the region.

In the electoral equations of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP leadership has been very active from Purvanchal to Central and Bundelkhand region for the past one month, but its activities in western UP are much less than the rest of the regions.

One reason for this has been the conditions created by the peasant movement. But now that the central government has decided to withdraw all three agriculture laws, the situation in western UP may be favorable for the BJP.

Meanwhile, talks of an alliance between SP and RLD are intensifying. When these two forge an alliance, the equations in this field can be affected. However, after the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013, the equations of the entire region had changed. The BJP got huge benefit from it in the last assembly elections. However, since then the situation has changed considerably. In such a situation, the BJP is treading with caution.

Jats and Muslims together can affect 55 seats

About 20 percent  of western UP are Jats and 30 to 40 percent are Muslims. If these two are seen together, then about 55 seats are affected. If these two communities come together politically, the problems of the BJP may increase. After the Muzaffarnagar riots, there has been a stress and strain between the two communities.

The Jat community had strongly supported the BJP, the results of which have come to the fore in the subsequent elections. In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP got 109 seats out of 136, while the SP got 20 seats. BSP got three, Congress got two and RLD got one seat. Later the lone RLD MLA had joined the BJP.
