Sri Lanka Crisis: Ministry of External Affairs said, closely monitoring the situation, India with Sri Lanka

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has said that in the midst of the crisis in the island nation Sri Lanka, ‘India stands with Sri Lanka.’ Sri Lankan Army soldiers were seen guarding the President’s Secretariat in Colombo on Sunday. The Sri Lankan Rashtrapati Bhavan has been surrounded by anti-government protesters.

Amid deepening political and social crisis in Sri Lanka, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the recent developments in Sri Lanka are being continuously monitored. “We are aware of the many challenges that Sri Lanka and its people are facing,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said in a statement. We stand with the people of Sri Lanka as they try to overcome this difficult period.

‘Unprecedented support’ from India to Sri Lanka. The Ministry of External Affairs underlined that India is Sri Lanka’s immediate neighbour. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has given ‘unprecedented’ support of over $3.8 billion to ‘improve the dire economic situation in Sri Lanka’.
