Students of L.U. get a ringside view of Awadh through the sands of time

Lucknow: The Department of Medieval and Modern History, University of Lucknow organized a Special Lecture as Pre-Convocation Event on 28th November, 2023 at A. P. Sen Hall, University of Lucknow. The lecture was delivered on the topic ‘THE REGION OF AWADH : FROM SHARQIS TO THE COLONIAL TIMES’ by Prof. S.Z.H Jafri, Former Head, Department of History, University of Delhi. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including Prof. Arvind Awasthi, Pro-Vice Chancellor & Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. P. K Ghosh, Prof. Aroop Chakravarti, Dr. Roshan Taqui among others. The welcome address was given by Professor Shama Mahmood, Head of the Department of Medieval and Modern History.

Professor Jafri explained the emergence of Awadh, as it exists today as a pivot of cultural richness. He discussed in detail the revolt of 1857 and its consequences. He unraveled that Awadh’s Culture is not just about music and extravagance but was also abundant in knowledge. The event was followed by an interactive session in which Prof. Jafri answered the queries of the students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Manisha, Assistant Professor of the Department. The lecture was attended by approximately 300 attendees including the Faculties of various Departments of University of Lucknow and affiliated colleges, students and research scholars.
