Sugar mills of state to make pesticides available to cane farmers – Sanjay R Bhoosreddy

Lucknow: Sugar mills of the States will provide pesticide to cane farmers on interest free loan for effective prevention of early shoot borer, top borer and other pests. Farmers’ loans will be adjusted from. Cane price of the last supply tickets of upcoming crushing season 2022-23

The Cane Commissioner gave relief to the farmers for security of cane crop by taking cognizance of the outbreak of early shoot borer & top borer.

Sugar mills will provide chlorantraniliprole or other equivalent pesticide to the interested farmers on interest free loan.

The distribution of pesticide will be done to cane farmers according to cane area and their requirement.
A discount of 20 percent will be provided by the sugar mills on the actual price of the pesticide.

Commissioner, cane and Sugar  Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy said that due to the outbreak of early shoot borer and top borer in certain sugar mill areas and in view of the demand of cane farmers and sugar mills for crop protection. It has been decided to provide Chlorantraniliprole or other equivalent insecticide on interest free loan.

The loan amount will be adjusted from cane price of the last supply tickets of upcoming crushing season 2022-23.

Giving information about the instructions issued in this regard, Bhoosreddy said that pesticide would be distributed to the farmers only once in the crushing season relative to their actual cane area and as per their requirement. No sugar mills shall distribute Chlorantraniliprole or other insecticides to any farmer without his consent and as a business activity aimed for making profit. The quality of pesticides distributed to cane farmers should be as per the Insecticides Act, 1968 and Insecticides Rules, 2019.

It has been directed by the Cane Commissioner that the sugar mill will be responsible for payment of taxes on the distribution of insecticides to the Government of India and the State Government. The list of selected plots and farmers for pesticide distribution by the sugar mill will be made available to the District Cane Officer. A rebate of 20 percent on the actual price of the pesticide to be provided to the sugarcane farmers will be borne by the sugar mills themselves.

Sugar mills applying for loan adjustment permission will also have to be submit, Notarized affidavit on stamp paper of Rs.100 and 1 year bank guarantee of Rs.5 lakh in the name of cane commissioner and notarized indemnity bond on Rs.100 stamp paper. In case of any irregularity in loan adjustment, the relevant amount will be deducted from the bank guarantee of Rs.5 lakh furnished by the sugar mill.

Bhoosreddy also informed that with the permission granted for distribution of Chlorantraniliprole or other equivalent insecticide with certain restrictions, will effectively control the increasing outbreak of early shoot borer and top borer in sugar mill areas, and it will help in increasing sugarcane production.
