Lucknow: In what seems to be even more stringent laws to tighten the monitoring of different media, the government has setup a mechanism to monitor the media through a monitoring committee which will be constituted at the district level to monitor content of TV channels, FM and community radio stations in the state.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Information Department Navneet Sehgal has instructed all District Magistrates to constitute the Monitoring Committee. It is Sehgal’s firm belief that according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, a monitoring committee should be set up in every district under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate. Superintendent of Police, Principal of a women’s college in the district nominated by the District Magistrate, a representative of a voluntary organization working for the benefit of children, a representative of a voluntary organization working for the welfare of women, an educationist in the field of psychology, communication and a representative of electronic media who will be appointed as a member of the committee. The District Information Officer will be the member secretary of this committee. Sehgal said that the district collectors have been instructed to constitute a committee in a week and submit the report to the government.
