Lucknow: A Virtual Mango Buyer Seller Meet was organized today by Hofed in collaboration with APEDA New Delhi, Horticulture and Food Processing Department and Embassy of India-Bhutan to establish the mangoes of Uttar Pradesh in Bhutan’s markets.
Ruchira Kamboj, Ambassador of India to Bhutan, in her remarks at the event said that there is ample scope for exporting mangoes from Uttar Pradesh to Bhutan’s markets. Two times Indian mangoes have been imported by Bhutan this year as compared to last year.
Therefore, it was expected that mangoes from Uttar Pradesh should be exported to the markets of Bhutan. Complimenting the quality of one ton of mangoes sent by Hofed for this event, the cooperation of the State Government and Hofed was appreciated.
MVS Rami Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Horticulture and Food Processing, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in his address, thanked the Embassy of India and APEDA for their cooperation and assured that the State Government would provide necessary support to the Bhutanese importers to import mangoes from Uttar Pradesh.
Anjani Kumar Srivastava, Managing Director, Hofed, in his remarks said that Hofed has a very good network of horticultural growers at the village level. Therefore, full cooperation can be given by Hofed for backward linkage for mango export. Two modern pack houses are established in Uttar Pradesh, from which high quality mangoes can be prepared for export.
It was mentioned by Srivastava that the air freight for export to Bhutan is excessive at about Rs 270 per kg, so Bhutan should be encouraged to export by road so that mango growers can get good profit and Bhutanese consumers can get a fair price. Mango of Uttar Pradesh will be available at price. It was also assured that the importers of Bhutan would be provided full cooperation by Hofed.
Appreciating the efforts made by the APEDA officials for export of mangoes by the State Government and Hofed, it was assured that in the coming years, maximum publicity of the mangoes of Uttar Pradesh would be done in the Bhutanese markets. APEDA also stressed on exports to Bhutan by road. Dr. RK Tomar, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Uttar Pradesh and SK Suman, Incharge-Marketing, Hofed were also present in the program.
