Lucknow: Its two more years to go for the Municipal Elections in the state capital of Uttar Pradesh. As the municipal corporation deliberates on how to further make the Lucknow Nagar Nigam more effective in its working, the next major plan on the cards is to split the municipal corporation into two parts before the election of the mayor and wards.
It is learnt from reliable sources that the government has already done its homework to put this change into motion. Only recently the Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon ‘Gopal’ in a high power meeting with the officers, considered the matter. In the meeting, along with the posting of two Chief Engineers, two Park Superintendents and two Municipal Health Officers, the number of officers of the level of Additional Municipal Commissioner was also considered.
While the decision to split the corporation into two is in discussion mode, there remains a churn in the division of the Municipal Corporation into Trans and Cis Gomti. The area falling under its ambit has increased to 568 square kilometers with the inclusion of 88 villages in the Municipal Corporation boundary.
Officials are also working on how the Municipal Corporation will be able to develop in the new area already burdened with liability. There remains no budget thus far for border expansion.
The Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon was recently quoted saying that with increasing area of the Municipal Corporation, it will provide facilities to the public on behalf of the Municipal Corporation in a better way.
