Lucknow: One of the biggest fallouts of the pandemic atleast for U.P. has been that there has been a sudden spike in number of cases of child beggars roaming streets and begging for food or money. With this happening, the State Government has implemented a special action plan at the district level. Those children who are seen roaming the streets begging will be motivated to study and will be helped gain employment. Reportedly some people in the state are forcibly trying to push innocent children into begging. Children are not just getting away from education, they are also falling victim to exploitation. In such a situation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath (CM Yogi Adityanath) has started this special campaign to stop child begging and give them a better life. Police, traffic police, special police units, child welfare associations, Legal Services and district administration, including NGOs of the state are working together in this massive campaign to stop child begging.
Under Mission Shakti, children of needy families of the state will be linked with the Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana to connect them with the mainstream of education. Counselling of parents of children will be done, on the other hand, all these children will be admitted to primary schools. So far about 2,500 child beggars have been identified from different districts of the state. Stringent action will be taken to identify people who forcibly make children beg in front of malls, markets, crossings and places of worship.
