Lucknow: Lohri was organized with much pomp and gaiety in the city of Lucknow. A bouquet of traditions was on display as the city decked up to celebrate the festival of harvest and joy. Sangats were chanted in Gurudwaras on the other hand. The celebrations went off smoothly at the Guru Nanak Girls Degree College, Basmandi Square.
Principal Surabhi Garg told the media that Gidda and Bhangra was performed with the burning of Lohri. Wearing traditional costumes, the students painted the air with the colours of Lohri. As per tradition maize, peanuts and black sesame laddus were set on fire.
As the evening set in on Lohri day, a panoramic view of Bhangra and Gidda with drum sets playing deepening the faith and belief of the festival.
Traditional songs played as young revellers danced to the tunes of Sundari Mundariye Tera Kaun Vichara Ho Dulla Bhatti Wala Ho. Faithful put Revdi, Peanut, Patti and Makhana in the fire.
Chairman of Lucknow Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Rajendra Singh Bagga has been quoted saying that Lohri is a festival of sharing happiness.
