Lucknow: Lucknow Metro gets ‘’Energy Conservation Award, 2021’’ for its energy efficient initiatives, while Kanpur Metro project bags ‘’Effective Safety Culture Award, 2021’ for its compliance of its high level safety & security standards in construction of Priority corridor.
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation was today felicitated with Greentech Award 2021in Sonmarg (Jammu & Kashmir) for ‘Effective Safety Culture’ & ‘Energy Conservation’ categories for its Lucknow Metro & Kanpur Metro projects. Greentech Foundation recognises outstanding and exemplary initiatives and practices in areas of developing effective safety culture to prevent incidents and accidents, to save precious human lives at workplaces.
During an award ceremony UPMRC’s Lucknow Metro project was honoured with ‘Energy Conservation Award, 2021’. The Kanpur Metro’s Priority Corridor from ‘IIT to Motijheel’ was also awarded the ‘Effective Safety Culture Award, 2021’ for its compliance of its high level safety & security standards in ongoing construction of priority corridor. Lucknow Metro was awarded for adopting various energy conservation practices to protect the environment like use of 100% LED lights at the Metro stations and inside trains along with regenerative braking which significantly helped in energy/power conservation.
Rolling stocks used in Lucknow Metro Project have energy efficiency of around 40% due to Regenerative Braking Technology. Besides rolling stocks, Regenerative Braking is also being used in lifts of all Metro stations of Lucknow Metro with 37% energy efficiency. This not only results in saving substantial amount of energy but also lowers the carbon foot print.
UPMRC has also installed a total capacity of 1.28 MW roof top solar plant at its premises. A 1.1MW capacity solar plant is installed at Transport Nagar Metro Depot. More than 30 lakhs units of electricity have been generated through these solar plants till date. There are various benefits of solar energy ranging from being cost effective in comparison to electricity procured from grid. Also, harnessing solar energy results in lower carbon foot print.
Kumar Keshav, MD, UPMRC while congratulating on this accomplishment said, “UPMRC has undertaken various energy conservation measures for the protection & conservation of environment. Lucknow Metro also ensures that its operations are eco-friendly and continuously thrive to reduce the carbon footprint in the city. We have taken these initiatives to provide green and clean mobility solution in the form of Mass Rapid Transit System to the public in the long run.”
