Lucknow: To curb the incidents of stubble burning in the state, the Agriculture Department, which is working simultaneously on both the incentive and strict fronts, has imposed a fine of Rs 11.12 lakh on those who burn crop residue.

A recovery of Rs 6.45 lakh has also been made against this fine. However, despite all efforts for stubble management, there has been an increase in incidents of crop residue burning in the state compared to last year. Last year till October 29, 748 cases of stubble burning were reported, this time their number has increased to 906.

Departmental officials argue that last year the crop was harvested late due to rain in the month of October, which is why the figures appear to have increased compared to last year. Let us tell you that about 40 percent paddy has been harvested in the state so far.
