Varanasi: Bringing laurels to the sports fraternity in the state, Varanasi’s Anurag R Singh has managed to grab the 45th place in the 19th FINA world open water swimming championship.

The championship is being held at Budapest. Anurag managed to clock 02:03:16.4 seconds. Sharing this news was honorary secretary, UP Swimming Association and joint secretary, Swimming Federation of India, Ravin Kapoor. He said participating in the 10-km open water swimming competition are 65 swimmers from all over the world. Anurag managed a place in trials for open water swimming championship held at VV Sagara, Chitradurga district, Karnataka organised by the Karnataka Swimming Association.

The trials were held under the overall support of Swimming Federation of India and department of youth empowerment and sports administration.

Anurag has participated in national junior and senior championships. His father Rakesh Singh is currently employed as swimming coach with Sports Authority of India.
