Vi and Ericsson complete one of the world’s largest charging consolidation programs in India

New Delhi: Ericsson has announced the successful completion of the charging consolidation program for leading telecom operator, Vodafone Idea Ltd. It replaced the three existing online charging solutions (OCS) with Ericsson Charging as a single pan-India OCS solution. The program is one of the largest successful projects of this type in the industry globally. This consolidated online charging solution with a unified data policy architecture enables Vi to launch new products faster and operate smarter, more efficiently.

With this, Vi now has a simplified prepaid charging stack available, which brings architecture uniformity across charging and data policies and charging rules functions, customer experience, life cycle management, product modeling and configuration, features and functions. The solution leverages the pre-integration of Ericsson Charging and Ericsson Policy Portfolio (in this case Ericsson Service Aware Policy Controller).

Implemented during the pandemic, the project, a first of its kind globally, has led to the migration and consolidation of over 300 million Vi customers on the Ericsson Charging System. The large number of customers migrated to this consolidation project has made it one of the largest reference cases in the world. By implementing this solution Vi has integrated all other OCS into Ericsson Charging.

The project successfully navigated the risks and complexities in multi-vendor network integration and IT integration, enabling the streamlining and rationalization of business configurations. With an integrated architecture and solution for unified charging and data policies, the consolidated solution enables V to scale with greater efficiency and faster to meet the demands of today’s digital environment and more effectively meet the business needs of the future. The solution provides a single system for proposal generation and user communication, thereby simplifying provisioning and continuity. The architecture setup not only simplifies V’s operations but also improves the customer experience.

Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea Limited, said, “Vi has successfully completed one of the world’s largest telecom network integrations to spread the data network of over 1 billion Indians across India. As part of this integration, we have collaborated with Ericsson for a large charging consolidation project, which has enabled us to harmonize architecture and operations. The future-ready and flexible solution will improve customer experiences and enable us to introduce new products and services faster. With this feature, we will be able to control the credit, through flexible packaging, bonuses and discounts, users will also be able to control their spending.

Amarjeet Singh, Vice President, Sales, West India, Ericsson, said, “Ericsson’s end-to-end network and IT experience, coupled with our deep understanding of customers’ specific needs have enabled us to offer tailored solutions for Vi. These solutions enable Vi not only to capture and secure revenue streams, but also to take advantage of new digital business opportunities. Ericsson will help Charging V reduce its OpEx, introduce new innovative products and provide better customer experience.”

Ericsson Charging is a scalable, flexible BSS solution with a focus on enhanced user experience. It has a future-proof product roadmap, which enables real-time convergent charging, policy control, decoupling and rapid creation of services.
